With the Webmecanik Automation tracking script, you can automatically personalize the language of your email communications without multiplying your segments. The script directly retrieves your visitors' browser language and populates this information on their contact profile.
Enable Automatic Language Updates 🌐
The browser language is stored in the default system field named Preferred Locale (alias
preferred_locale). To allow the tracking script to populate this field automatically during website visits, you must enable public updates.
- Go to your instance Settings ⚙️ (gear icon in the top right corner) and click on Custom fields.
- Search for and edit the Preferred Locale field.
- In the right panel under field usage options, toggle Publicly updatable to Yes.
- Click Save & Close.
Create Your Email Translations ✉️
You do not need to create separate segments for each language (e.g., FR Segment, EN Segment). Simply link your language variations to a main email, known as the "Parent" email.
For a step-by-step guide on setting this up and leveraging artificial intelligence for your translations, check out our dedicated article: How to Automatically Translate Your Emails Using AI.
Set Up Sending in Campaigns 🚀
Once your parent email and translated versions are ready, targeting works seamlessly:
- Open or create your Campaign.
- Select the main segment containing all your contacts (regardless of their language).
- Add a Send email action and select only the Parent email.
-
Publish and save your campaign. When the action triggers, Webmecanik Automation checks the contact's
preferred_localefield and automatically delivers the matching translated version.
💡 Good to Know: The Fallback Rule
If a contact's
preferred_locale field is empty, or if a translation in their specific language is not available, the Parent email will be sent by default.
