Forms are a powerful tool for collecting information from your prospects. 🧲 However, in a B2B context, you probably have no interest in collecting addresses from public webmail services (such as Gmail, Yahoo, etc.).
Webmecanik Automation allows you to block specific domain names when a form is submitted. If a contact tries to sign up with a restricted address, they will be prompted to enter another one via a fully customizable error message.
⚙️ Step 1: Configure the domains to block globally
Before modifying your forms, you must first define the list of unauthorized domains in your instance settings.
- Go to the Configuration menu (the gear icon), then click the Form settings tab in the left sidebar menu.
- Find the corresponding section, where you will see a large text field titled: “Do not retain form submissions with these domain names:”.
- Enter the domain names you want to exclude here. You can enter a complete email address (e.g.,
jeandupont@yahoo.fr) or use an asterisk to block an entire domain (e.g.,*gmail.comto block all addresses ending in @gmail.com). - Remember to save your changes in the upper-right corner.
📝 Step 2: Enable blocking on your form
Now that your restriction rules are defined, you need to apply them to the desired form.
- Create a new form or edit an existing one.
- Add or edit an Email field.
- In the field editing window, click the Validation tab.
- Enable the “Block submission from certain domain names” option by switching the toggle to Yes.
- Just below, in the “Validation message” field, customize the text that will be displayed if an attempt is blocked (for example: "This address cannot be used to submit the form. Please use a business email address.").
- Click Add or Save to confirm your field, then save your complete form.
💡 Tip: Remember to test your form in private browsing mode with a blocked address to make sure the error message displays correctly! ✅
That's it—your form will now automatically filter out the email addresses you no longer want entering your database. 🎉
