How to Display a Sender Name Instead of a Phone Number for SMS?

By default, when you send an SMS with Webmecanik Automation, the sender displayed on your contacts' phones is a standard phone number. However, you can customize this sender to display your company name using the "Alphanumeric Sender ID" feature. 📱
 
This improves brand recognition and increases trust among your recipients! Depending on the gateway you use, two solutions are available.
 

Solution 1: Customize the Sender Name with Retarus (European Solution)

If you use Retarus as your SMS gateway (our European partner solution 🇪🇺), customizing your sender name for your campaigns is fully supported.
Customization Rules:
The sender name is subject to a strict universal rule: it is limited to a maximum of 11 characters.
 
Configuration:
To enable sending via Retarus and customize your sender name, the process is fully guided. You cannot configure it independently within the interface: you must reach out to your CSM (Customer Success Manager) or contact our support team. 📞
Our teams will activate this solution and configure your custom sender name directly with Retarus to ensure optimal deliverability for your SMS campaigns.
 

Solution 2: Customize the Sender Name with Twilio

If you use the Twilio gateway for sending SMS, you can configure the sender name independently.
⚠️ Note: This Twilio feature only works if you have a paid Twilio account.
 
Customization Rules (Sender ID):
To ensure carrier acceptance, your name must comply with strict rules:
  • 11 characters maximum.
  • Must contain at least one letter (cannot consist solely of numbers).
  • Allowed characters: letters (a-z, A-Z), digits (0-9), and spaces.
 
Configuration in Webmecanik Automation:
Once the Alphanumeric Sender ID is enabled and approved in your Twilio console, you must enter it in your Automation instance:
  1. Log in to your Webmecanik Automation account.
  2. Go to the Plugins section by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner, then click Twilio.
  3. Open the Features tab and enter your chosen sender name in the Sending phone number field.
